Carey, Otero and Prieto eye ophthalmic lenses buy

Prieto y Cía. has helped Essilor, the world’s largest manufacturer of ophthalmic lenses, purchase a stake in its Chilean counterpart, Megalux.

Essilor paid an undisclosed sum to acquire a 51 per cent stake in the company on 18 March from the Schroter family, which was advised by Carey and Otero y Cia. The Schroter family will retain a 49 per cent stake in Megalux.

The deal will enable Megalux to benefit from Essilor’s research and development experience in Chile’s increasingly competitive corrective lenses market.
