Diversity

Diversity as a value that strengthens us

At Carey, we believe that diversity, gender equity, and inclusion strengthen organizations, improve decision-making, and create fairer, more human, and sustainable work environments. That's why we actively promote a culture based on respect, merit, and shared responsibility, and drive programs and initiatives aimed at reducing structural gaps in the legal profession.

We are convinced that the strongest organizations are those that integrate diverse perspectives, eliminate structural barriers, and promote environments where everyone can grow professionally and personally.

Gender equity: moving beyond access

Our recruitment policy is based exclusively on merit. In recent years, female lawyers graduating in the top 5% of Chile's leading universities have chosen Carey as their first employer, reflecting confidence in our professional development model.

But we know that access is not enough. That's why we promote programs aimed at reducing gender gaps in the legal profession and supporting our female lawyers at every stage of their careers:

  • Carey Women: an internal support and training network that provides concrete tools to navigate the challenges of professional practice, with a focus on leadership, well-being, and career development
  • Learning to Lead: a mentorship program created in 2015, recognized by Chambers & Partners as the best in Latin America in 2016, to support the leadership of young female lawyers inside and outside the firm
  • More than 20 seminars and workshops organized, both internally and open to the legal industry, on unconscious bias, shared responsibility, female leadership, personal branding, and time management, with the participation of over 700 professionals
  • Equal pay policy between men and women, applied across the board and auditable
  • Concrete parental co-responsibility measures, including:
    • Hybrid work
    • Full pay during pre and postnatal leave, including parental postnatal leave
    • Extension of paternity leave up to 30 days, promoting a more balanced distribution of caregiving roles

Inclusion with real impact

Since 2016, Carey has led an inclusive employment program for people with cognitive disabilities, in partnership with Fundación Complementa and Universidad Andrés Bello. This model has enabled the sustained incorporation of people with Down syndrome into different teams within the firm, supported by training processes and ongoing assistance.

This experience has not only generated real opportunities for participants and their families but has also enriched our internal culture: it strengthens social skills, promotes empathy, and deepens collective commitment to a more human and collaborative environment.

Additionally, we promote the hiring of foreign professionals as part of our effort to build diverse teams in training, language, experience, and culture.
