Shearman & Sterling LLP in New York and Carey in Santiago have helped Banco de Chile issue US$500 million in its first offering under its US$3 billion medium-term note programme.

The underwriters enlisted Linklaters in New York and Garrigues (Chile).

The offering closed on 9 December.

The notes have a 2.99% interest rate and mature in 2031.

A medium-term note programme enables companies to offer debt securities on a regular or continuous basis.

Banco de Chile is one of the Andean country’s largest financial institutions, with 45 trillion pesos (US$53 billion) worth of assets.
