Ministry of Mining submits to citizen consultation Draft of the National Strategy for Critical Minerals
September 23, 2025

In Santiago de Chile, on September 22, 2025, Exempt Resolution No. 2231 of the Ministry of Mining was published in the Official Gazette, submitting to citizen consultation a preliminary draft of the National Strategy for Critical Minerals, prepared through a participatory process between April and August 2025.

This aligns with one of the goals of the economic axis of the National Mining Policy 2025 (approved by Supreme Decree No. 2 of 2022), which seeks a mineral diversification strategy to increase production of minerals other than copper, such as rare earths and cobalt.

The preliminary draft aims to:

  • strengthen Chile’s position as a reliable supplier of critical minerals by ensuring a stable and diversified supply;
  • strengthen Chile’s position as a responsible supplier, guaranteeing high environmental and social standards, contributing to territorial development and public trust;
  • promote value addition and the development of new industries related to critical minerals, strengthening productive, technological and human-capital capabilities; and
  • foster strategic alliances and mutually beneficial partnerships at national and international levels for the reliable and responsible development of the critical-minerals value chain.
