In Santiago de Chile, on September 22, 2025, Exempt Resolution No. 2231 of the Ministry of Mining was published in the Official Gazette, submitting to citizen consultation a preliminary draft of the National Strategy for Critical Minerals, prepared through a participatory process between April and August 2025.
This aligns with one of the goals of the economic axis of the National Mining Policy 2025 (approved by Supreme Decree No. 2 of 2022), which seeks a mineral diversification strategy to increase production of minerals other than copper, such as rare earths and cobalt.
The preliminary draft aims to:
- strengthen Chile’s position as a reliable supplier of critical minerals by ensuring a stable and diversified supply;
- strengthen Chile’s position as a responsible supplier, guaranteeing high environmental and social standards, contributing to territorial development and public trust;
- promote value addition and the development of new industries related to critical minerals, strengthening productive, technological and human-capital capabilities; and
- foster strategic alliances and mutually beneficial partnerships at national and international levels for the reliable and responsible development of the critical-minerals value chain.
