Hague Apostille Convention to enter into force in Mainland China
October 30, 2023

On November 7, 2023, the Hague Convention will enter into force in Mainland China, abolishing the requirement of legalization for foreign public documents. This is a consequence of the signature of the Hague Convention by Mainland China, last March 8, 2023.

The Hague Convention has been in force in the Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions since April 25, 1965, and February 4, 1969, respectively.

After joining the Convention, the use of documents between Mainland China and Chile (Chile is a signatory of the Hague Convention since August 30, 2016) will not require authentication and/or legalization by the respective embassies or consulates, and any public document executed in either country with a proper apostille will be considered legally valid in the other jurisdiction.

The procedure for trade and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries will be greatly simplified, significantly reducing the time and cost of these formalities.
