Japanese general trading company Mitsui & Co has hired Chilean firm Carey to acquire a minority interest in Inversiones Mitta, a company that owns Santiago-based car rental business Autorentas del Pacífico.

The seller, Sociedad de Inversiones Tajamar, hired Cuatrecasas (Chile) for the deal, which closed on 30 November for an undisclosed amount.

The transaction gave the Japanese group an 11% stake in the target, making it a majority shareholder with 60% in total. Mitsui purchased a 49% share in Mitta back in 2018 for an undisclosed amount.

Mitta owns some 19,000 vehicles in Chile and operates a fleet management business.
