His practice focuses on environmental law, including advice on the Environmental Impact Assessment System, audits, waste and emissions management, sectoral permits, and especially environmental litigation, as well as administrative procedures related to energy, mining, aquaculture, forestry, sanitary and real estate projects, among other matters.

He previously worked as an Associate of Carey’s Litigation Group and his practice focused on civil, commercial and environmental litigation and arbitration, before ordinary and special courts.



REPRESENTATIVE EXPERIENCE

  • Empresa Eléctrica Carén (Latin América Power) on the reception process and final approval of two hydroelectric plants in the Carilafquén and Malalcahuello rivers, including its legal defense in several judicial proceedings and administrative negotiations before the General Water Bureau.
  • Nova Austral, a Chilean salmon farmer and processor owned by Altor, on its defense before the Environmental Court challenging five sanctioning proceedings initiated against it by the Superintendence of the Environment due to different alleged infringements at several farming centres, including overproduction, environmental damage and avoidance of the Environmental Assessment System.
  • Melón on a claim for environmental damage initiated by the Quintero Bay fishermen's union against all the companies in the area.
  • Hapag-Lloyd, a German listed company and global leader in container shipping, on the acquisition, for approx. USD1 billion, of the port terminals and inland logistics business of SAAM, a Chilean listed multinational company that provides foreign trade services. Hapag-Lloyd acquired the entire operation of the port terminals business of SAAM, which includes ten terminals in six countries in the Americas, and of the inland logistics business of SAAM.
  • Pan American Silver on an environmental and water rights due diligence in relation to an offer for the acquisition of Yamana Gold mining operations, which included El Peñón and Minera Florida projects for USD5.02 billion.
  • Compañía Minera Cielo Azul on several lawsuits against the Chilean Treasury for the constitution of legal mining easements for the Marimaca mining project.

  • Undergraduate Thesis Award granted by the Chamber of Deputies of the Chilean Parliament for his research thesis titled “Systematic analysis of the punitive administrative proceeding of the Financial Market Commission Act” (2019).
