Government announces new sanitary measures as a result of the epidemiological conditions of the Covid-19 outbreak in the United Kingdom

Given the current epidemiological situation of the Covid-19 outbreak in the United Kingdom, on December 22nd, 2020 the Supreme Decree No.656, of the Ministry of the Interior and Public Security was published in the Official Gazette, together with the Exempt Resolution No.1,104 of the Ministry of Health, implementing the following sanitary measures, that entered into force on December 22nd at 00:00 hrs.:

  • The prohibition of entry into national territory to all non-resident foreigners, that have been in the United Kingdom in the last 14 days.The latter notwithstanding the exemptions established in article second of the Supreme Decree No.102 of the Ministry of the Interior and Public Security, that allows the entry and exit of load, personnel associated to its freight and some foreigners in exceptional circumstances. Within this last group are included, among others, foreigners that must entry the country due to imperative needs for business management purposes, holding a safe-passage permit issued according to article 66th of the Consular Regulation, as well as other people who are holder of the referred authorization.
  • Chileans and foreigners regularly residing in national territory who enter Chile and that have been during the last 14 days in the United Kingdom, must comply with a 14-day quarantine from the moment they enter into national territory. In this case, it will not be applicable the exemption of such measure by providing a negative PCR test for Covid-19.Nevertheless, the latter does not exempt Chileans and foreigners regularly residing in national territory from complying with the obligations of: (i) complete a sworn affidavit of their state of health at the moment of entry into Chile; (ii) adhere to the Traveler Tracking program during the 14 days following their entry into national territory; and (iii) be submitted to a direct detection test for Covid-19, in case of being randomly selected by the health authorities at the time of entry.

The government has announced that these measures will be temporary and will be reevaluated within 2 weeks.
