Partner of Carey and co-head of the firm's Environment Group. His practice focuses on environmental law, including advice on the Environmental Impact Assessment System, audits, waste management, sectoral permits, ESG and administrative procedures, and litigation related to energy, mining, aquaculture, forestry, health, and real estate projects, among others.


REPRESENTATIVE EXPERIENCE

  • Capstone Mining Corp., a Canadian based company, on a USD3.3 billion joint venture with Mantos Copper. Capstone’s shareholders acquired a 60.2% stake in the new mining company, which operates as Capstone Copper. Mantos’ shareholders acquired the remaining minority interest. Capstone Copper operates the Chilean mining projects Mantoverde, Mantos Copper and Santo Domingo.
  • Hapag-Lloyd, a German listed company and global leader in container shipping, on the acquisition, for approx. USD1 billion, of the port terminals and inland logistics business of SAAM, a Chilean listed multinational company that provides foreign trade services. Hapag-Lloyd acquired the entire operation of the port terminals business of SAAM, which includes ten terminals in six countries in the Americas, and of the inland logistics business of SAAM.
  • BlackRock on environmental and permitting matters related to the acquisition of a portfolio of PMGD photovoltaic projects.
  • OMERS Infrastructure Chile Holdings I and Enagás Chile on environmental matters related to the sale of 80% of their shareholding in GNL Quintero to EIG Global Energy Partners and Fluxys for USD1,165 billion.
  • Mainstream Renewable Power on environmental and permitting aspects related to a project financing for approx. USD162 million granted by CaixaBank, DNB Bank ASA and KfW IPEX-Bank and a VAT facility for approx. USD16 million granted by Scotiabank Chile, for the development and construction of Copihue, the last phase of its "Andes Renovables" wind and solar platform in Chile.
  • Sonnedix on the obtention of regulatory permits and the environmental evaluation of its solar project, Meseta de los Andes; and on the defense of its environmental resolution before the Committee of Ministers.
  • Frutura, a US-based sales and marketing network of fresh fruits spanning assets in the US, Peru and Uruguay, on the acquisition of Subsole, one of Chile's largest fresh fruit companies and leading exporter, specially of table grapes.
  • KSL Capital Partners, a US-based private equity firm, and its Australian luxury hotel platform Baillie Lodges, on the acquisition of Tierra Hotels. The latter is a Chilean luxury lodge chain with hotels in Torres del Paine (Patagonia), San Pedro de Atacama and Chiloé.
  • Codelco on a strategy regarding environmental matters, maritime concessions and water rights.
  • PROREP on the constitution of its collective management system for container and packaging waste within the context of the Law about Extended Producer Responsibility.
  • Clorox on the drafting and negotiation of a built to suit lease agreement for its new distribution center in Santiago, including permitting matters.
  • Astaldi, concessionaire of the Embalse Punilla project, on its defense against an environmental damage responsibility claim filed by a group of people before the Third Environmental Court. Additionally, on its defense in a claim filed by a group of people before the Environmental Assessment Service against the Environmental Approval Resolution of the transmission line for La Punilla reservoir.
