For several years, Carey y Cía. has been committed to provide legal services and free legal advice to poor people or vulnerable sectors of the Chilean society, small entrepreneurs and social organizations. At Carey y Cía. we try to select pro bono projects that have an ample social repercussion and as a full-service law firm we give priority to pro bono work that allows us to use multidisciplinary teams.

As a recognition to the free legal work done by the firm, Carey y Cía. was honored in 2008 as “Distinguished Law Firm of the Year” by the Pro Bono Foundation, a local organization that promotes pro bono work in Chile.

Recent experience in pro bono work includes projects such as an interactive guide named "Mi Empresa: Guía Práctica para Emprender en Chile", “Un Techo para mi País”, “Proyecto Imagen País”, “Teach for America”, “Charlas a la Fundación Simón de Cirene”, “Manual para Pymes”, “Manual para ONGs”, and legal assistance for the people affected by the quake of February 2010, among others activities. The firm is also member of the Red de Abogados Penalistas of the Pro Bono Foundation.

This Foundation is a non-for-profit entity, created by the end of 2000, under the initiative of a group of young lawyers, who inspired by the pro bono legal work carried out in bigger countries, wanted to develop this model of voluntary work in Chile. Currently the Pro Bono Foundation is formed by more than 50 local law firms and has approximately 250 voluntary members, who have committed themselves to provide free legal services to poor people, vulnerable sectors or groups, micro entrepreneurs and social organizations.
