Francisco Ugarte is a partner of Carey y Cía.’s Corporate / Mergers & Acquisitions / Capital Markets / Banking & Finance Group. His practice focuses on international and local mergers and acquisitions, including tender offers, negotiated transactions, auction processes and joint ventures. He also advises on private equity, securities offerings, derivatives, project development and banking and financial transactions for a wide range of financial institutions and investors.

Mr. Ugarte first joined Carey y Cía. in 1996 and re-joined the firm in 2003 after concluding his LL.M. at the University of Chicago Law School in 2001. He also worked for two years as a foreign associate with the New York law firm of Shearman & Sterling in the Project Development & Finance Group.

Mr. Ugarte has been named as one of the leading corporate lawyers in Chile under the age of 40, and has been ranked as a leading practitioner in M&A and derivatives. In addition, Mr. Ugarte is a professor at the LL.M. program of the Universidad Católica de Chile and at the Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez School of Law, lecturing on various corporate finance, securities and M&A topics.

Mr. Ugarte studied law at the Universidad Católica de Chile and was admitted to the Chilean Bar in 1996.

He is fluent in Spanish and English.
