Francisco Guzmán is a member of Carey y Cía.’s Corporate/ Mergers & Acquisitions / Capital Markets Group. His practice focuses on representing Chilean and foreign clients in the acquisition and sale of public and private companies, joint ventures, corporate restructurings, financial transactions, corporate governance and capital markets.

He also has experience in international arbitration. Between 2010 and 2011, Mr. Guzmán worked at White & Case LLP, New York, as a member of the International Arbitration Practice Group. He has represented and advised clients involved in foreign investment, mining, insurance and maritime disputes.

Mr. Guzmán is the author of the book “Inside Information in the Securities Market” (Información Privilegiada en el Mercado de Valores, LexisNexis, 2007), and was a member of the team of translators of the Spanish version of the “IBA Guidelines for Drafting International Arbitration Clauses” (IBA, 2011).

Francisco was an invited speaker to the seminar "Investment Opportunities – The case of Chile, Perú and Colombia" (Columbia Law School, New York), and to the event "International Practice of Law" (NYU Stern School of Business, New York), both in 2011. In 2008 he was an adjunct professor of Commercial Law at Universidad Católica de Chile.

Mr. Guzman studied law at Universidad Católica de Chile (magna cum laude) and was admitted to the Bar in 2006. He received a Master of Laws degree (LL.M.) from Columbia Law School in 2010, where he graduated as a Kent Scholar, the highest honors awarded by the law school. He was admitted to the New York State Bar in 2011.

He is fluent in Spanish and English.
