Jorge Ugarte is member of Carey y Cía.’s Corporate / Mergers and Acquisitions / Capital Markets Group. His practice focuses on representing Chilean as well as foreign clients in the areas of acquisition and sales of public and private companies, joint ventures, corporate restructurings, corporate governance and capital markets. He also has experience in financial transactions such as debt securities and project finance, including companies of the mining and natural resources sectors, among others.

Since 2010 he is Professor of Corporate Law at the Universidad Católica de Chile. He had previously acted as an Assistant Professor of Civil Law at the same Law School (2006 – 2008).

He has authored articles on matters of his specialty that have been published in different reviews, including the Chilean Law Review and the Center of Public Studies (CEP). He is member of the Center of Corporate Governance of the Universidad Católica de Chile, and member of the Chilean Bar Association.

Mr. Ugarte studied law at the Universidad Católica de Chile, where he earned a Distinction Scholarship granted to the best student of the class (1998), and was admitted to the Bar in 2006. He received a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree from Columbia University School of Law, New York (2008 - 2009), and at present he attends a Master of Tax Management at Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez (2010 – 2011).

He is fluent in Spanish and English.
