Oscar Aitken is a partner and leads Carey y Cía.´s Labor and Immigration, and Engineering and Construction groups. His practice also includes litigation and arbitration, aviation, international agency and distributorship, contracts, and general civil practice.

In the engineering and construction practice, Mr. Aitken has great experience in contracts for all phases of engineering work, as well as in all forms of construction related contracts including Design Built, EPC, EPCM y BOT. His practice  encompass from the early stages of project development to bidding (including public bidding), negotiation and preparation co contract documents, claims management and dispute resolution.

Mr. Aitken also has a wealth of experience in real estate and has been involved in projects from development of natural conservation parks to housing projects, office and apartment buildings, hotels, industrial developments, etc., including title review, sale and purchase, promise agreements, leases, mortgages (including foreclosure), financing and tax structures, zoning, permitting and other regulatory matters.

His labor, employment and immigration practice includes collective bargaining, union matters, unfair labor practices, compensation and benefits,  discrimination and general violations of employee fundamental rights, employment termination, work related illness and accidents , labor related litigation of all types as well as work permits and visas for foreign personnel. 

During 1990-1999, he was an Assistant Professor of Labor Law at the Universidad de Chile School of Law.

Mr. Aitken is Co-Chair of the Dispute Resolution Sub-Committee of the International Construction Projects practice group of the International Bar Association (IBA)

He graduated from the Universidad de Chile Law School with maximum distinction and was admitted to the Bar in 1989. In 1991, Mr. Aitken obtained a Master in Laws (LL.M.) degree from the University of Michigan, USA. He joined the firm in 1989.

He is fluent in Spanish and English.
